Zentangles and Kindergarten Masterpieces

If you haven't heard of Zentangles, you are missing out on an addictive hobby! I introduced "Tangling" to the 5th graders for our first project, and our 45 minutes classes have been superbly meditative and calm.  These beautiful Zentangled animals will be mounted on a soft watercolor wash. They are just gorgeous!

Kindergarten is having so much fun with their first painting project. We have learned about the first 3 Elements of Art...Line, Shape and Color.  I love that every painting is entirely unique.

First week in the books!

The first week of school was a flurry of activity in the art room.  5th and 4th grade worked together  to create a beautiful collaborative art piece that will soon hang in the learning commons. 2nd and 3rd grade pondered the question "What is Art?" and illustrated a word to describe what art means to them. 1st graders finished miniature self-portraits and described why they love art.  Being new to the art room, kindergartners were assessed in their ability to color, cut and glue as they created a shape man.  I can't wait to see how creative they will be this year!
Kinder learn some basic coloring, cutting and gluing techniques.

4th and 5th grade work on a collaborative art piece.

2nd and 3rd grade ponder the meaning of art.
